The normal operation of your refrigerator will cause some sound. If you are concerned about the noise, check the following to determine if normal sound: Refrigerant after a defrost cycle can cause a normal tapping sound. If this is an older refrigerator or a newly occurring noise, this may not be normal and would require service to diagnose.
Popping and cracking noises may also simply be the expansion and contraction of internal parts as the unit changes temperature, requiring no action on your part.
If the noise is coming from the compressor, the compressor might be damaged internally. The compressor internal components can wear out over time generating more noise than normal. The compressor is usually located underneath the refrigerator near the back. Pull the refrigerator out from the wall and remove the rear panel to access it.

Ge Refrigerator Popping Noise
Just bought this fridge new at Menards in april of this year. We were on a budget and I realize we get what we pay for, but why is it making a constant popping noise while the compressor is running? its not during the defrost cycle though.. It sometimes is very loud and constant, and sometimes very quiet and sometimes I don't hear the popping at all. it cools just fine, but the popping noise is driving me nuts sometimes.. is there a fix? Does anyone have or had the same problem that they have a solution for?? I have a service tech coming out Monday, but I have a feeling they will say its normal noise as the customer service rep told me over the phone, BUT THERE IS NO WAY THIS IS NORMAL NOISE> I understand during defrost cycle, but not while its running, HELP Fridgidaire FFTR2126LW7 S# 4A23404573
